Free travel in Europe is possible: the Schwarzkopf Foundation is giving away Interrail passes to young Europeans from socioculturally disadvantaged backgrounds!
Have you always wanted to travel around Europe but never had the chance? The Schwarzkopf Foundation, with support from Deutsche Bahn, has opened an application period to get free Global Interrail passes.
The travel grants will be given priority to those who have never had the opportunity to travel abroad independently. The Foundation “believes that all young people should have the opportunity to experience Europe regardless of their social and regional origin, educational background or financial means.” Through the travel grants, the winners will be able to learn about the continent independently, dealing with political and social issues that they will record in the form of video reports. The Schwarzkopf Foundation’s goal is, in fact, to let young people have their say in telling a more courageous and inclusive story about Europe.
The Interrail is an all-in-one ticket that allows young people between the ages of 18 and 27 to travel by train through 33 European countries. The price of the Global Interrail pass varies depending on the traveler’s age and the amount of time they wish to have: four trips within a month cost 185 euros (and is the cheapest fare), three months of travel can cost up to 677 euros. The full catalog is available on the Interrail website.
All young Europeans between the ages of 18 and 27 can apply for the travel grant. Applications from young people with a migration background, from rural areas, from vocational schools or with a secondary school diploma will be favored.
The call for applications is open until May 30, 2022 (23:59 CET).
More information, FAQs and application process are available on the Schwarzkopf Foundation website.
