    ESC Project in Italy in Daily Educational Centers for Children Verified listing

    Description

    Location: Genova, Italy.
    Project duration:  6 months
    Applicants: 2 EU residents (22-30 years-old)
    Hosting organisation: Cooperativa La Comunità

    Volunteers will be involved either in all structures or one/two, according to the number of minors hosted at the moment of the service and depending on volunteers’ attitudes.

    Financial support:
    The volunteers will live in a shared apartment with double rooms in a historical center of Genova.
    The volunteer will receive pocket money of 5 euros per day + food allowance.
    The travel expenses will be reimbursed on the basis defined by the European Commission.

    Tasks

    Proposed activities – long term project in daily educational centres for children:

    - Recreational activities for children and adolescents such as games and workshops: the volunteers will support the educators in the preparation and realisation of weekly workshops about different topics (music, kitchen, art, etc.), and they will manage group games and recreational activities for the youngsters.
    - Scholastic and linguistic support for children and adolescents.
    - Overall support to children, adolescents, and staff members in the daily activities such as pedagogical support, short trips, and visits, sports activities, taking care of the common spaces, and sharing meals.

    About the organisation

    The Cooperative La Comunità is a social enterprise in Genoa that operates in the field of educational activities to combat and prevent minors’ distress and sustain fragile families through socio-educational, animation, and cultural services.

    Concerning high threshold services for minors, La Comunità has two different kinds of services:

    • daily educational centre (Comunità Educativa a ciclo diurno – CED), and
    • socio-educational centres (Centro Socio Educativi – CSDE)

    CED is a semi-residential service offering daily hospitality for minors living in complex and high-risk contexts. CED usually hosts children who have personal, relational, behavioural, and developing problems; who need individual educational interventions.

    CSDE works in a high-risk area, trying to avoid breaking family ties and to reconstruct, sustain and develop all relationships involving minors, to invert the tendency toward marginalisation. Through educational activities, CSDE provides special and flexible tools that lead the minor and family through a temporary crisis. La Comunità currently runs three CSEDs for Italian and foreign pre-adolescents and adolescents.

    Volunteer Profile

    The ideal volunteer:

    The ideal volunteer is autonomous, mature, responsible, open to sharing and meeting other people, and, above all, motivated to join our activities. The volunteer should be aware of its highly important role in the center and available to cooperate with the educative and training process of La Comunità.

    Since this involves a delicate role in contact with young people that often come from complex family situations, the volunteer must be fitted with qualities such as tolerance, patience, firmness, creativity, and above all, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
