Description

Associazione Il Ce.Sto Onlus has been involved since 1987 in the promotion of integration and social promotion processes among the different ethnicities living in the historical center of Genova, with particular attention towards minors, second-generation migrants, and other actors in the neighbourhood.

The association has built a space that

  • empowers educational, recreational, and creative goals among minors of different ethnicities and Italians;
  • stimulates and encourages positive relations between people, encounters, mutual knowledge, and solidarity;
  • provides paths and tolls to value and enforce individuals and community’s potential.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

  • Accommodation: The volunteer will live in Genova in a shared apartment with double/triple rooms. 
  • Pocket money and food: 6 euros per day and food or a food allowance will be provided.
  • Travel: The travel expenses will be reimbursed on the basis defined by the European Commission.

Training during the opportunity: (600 caratteri):

The volunteer will participate in the training opportunities offered by the Italian National Agency (On Arrival Training, Mid Term Evaluation, and Final Evaluation). In addition, they will also take part in the training opportunities organised by P.E.CO. Association, together with the other volunteers involved in the activities of other Hosting Organizations in Genoa. They will also receive specific training in the Hosting Organization related to the target group they will work with.

Tasks

Main activities:

The work is divided into two parts: one more bureaucratic, documentary, the other more educational and controlling.The volunteers will be divided into morning or afternoon shifts
Daily management of the refugees and asylum seekers at the flats where they live
Go round the houses to bring papers to be signed and check the state of the houses.
Integration and socialization activities (Italian courses, sports, and cultural activities).
Legal and health support and participation in the support towards the job market.

About the organisation

From a territorial point of view, Il Ce.Sto fits into the social fabric of Genova's historical centre, which by its very nature has great difficulties in the enhancement of active citizenship projects and attention to community resources; in general, the city struggles to promote participation and involvement in cultural, social and aggregative activities and pays little attention to generational needs (children, families, the elderly).

The composition of the actors that revolve around the cooperative's output is heterogeneous and includes members, volunteers, families, children, the elderly, shopkeepers, migrants, new and old citizens, institutions, non-profit organisations, trade associations and stakeholders.

The resources include the social context, the horizontal structure of the structure, the dynamism of the members and operators, the training and the focus on current events and other national and international urban regeneration projects.

Volunteer Profile

The proThe profile of an ideal volunteer is a person who is at least 25 years of age available for the WHOLE duration of the project: September 2025 - March 2026 (with the possibility to extend)

Minimum requirements:
- High flexibility;
- Adaptability to new situations;
- Open-minded;
- Cheerful personality;
- A basic knowledge of Italian is required.

Ideal characteristics:
- Knowledge on how to take part in a project for the development and integration of an entire community in the center of a large Italian city;
- Prepared to take up a delicate role in contact with young people that often come from complex family situations;
- Ready to work in a multicultural environment.
- Good knowledge of English;
- Willing to learn Italian
