Paid Internship at the General Secretariat of the Council of the EU (Brussels)
Description
Paid 5-month internship at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union. Around 110 places are offered each year, split across two sessions. Interns work closely with the staff who prepare and support the Council's work, gaining first-hand experience of the European decision-making process.
In addition to the "general" internships, up to 6 places are reserved for EU citizens with a recognised disability, with tailored workplace adjustments.

Bachelor's degree or higher already obtained by the application deadline
Excellent command of English or French (C1 level) and at least one other official EU language
No work or internship experience at another EU institution or body (beyond six weeks)

Tasks
Internships are available across different areas: public policy, law, administration, communications, translation, and IT.
Depending on the assigned service, typical activities include attending working group meetings and drafting reports, preparing background notes and research, following the progress of legislative dossiers, and contributing to communications materials or translation and revision work.

Monthly stipend: €1,538.16 net
Additional allowance for interns with disabilities (up to +50%)
Travel cost contribution (outward and return) for those recruited more than 50 km from Brussels (provided at least half the internship is completed)
Accident insurance included; for healthcare, the European Health Insurance Card applies, or alternatively Council coverage with a contribution of approximately €20/month paid by the intern
2 days of paid leave per month worked, plus public holidays and office closure days
