Lombok Inter Culture Exchange

Lombok Island has become a popular tourist destination, both domestically and internationally. Lombok is also famous for its natural landscape beauty, particularly Mount Rinjani, an active volcano with breathtaking views. The people of Lombok have a unique culture, including the Sasak language and Sasak wedding traditions. Administratively, Lombok Island is part of the province of West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.

We have several public facilities used by local children and family such as school, a playground, garden and community center. However, those facilities need to be seriously maintained in order to be used wisely by local people and kids.

• Program:

This program is aimed for giving young people opportunity to meet, to live and to learn something from local community. On the other hand, local community expects to learn something from foreign people as well. It is NOT necessary to teach something professional BUT being close, friendly and tolerate with others would be unforgettable moment for both volunteers and local community.

• Work:

Normally, 6~7 working hours a day. AEC Semarang expects that the results of volunteering work are visible and meaningful on/after working. Since participants are quite young and unskilled the work would be safe and adaptable for them (ex: No using of dangerous machine and materials. Providing enough water and safety instruction and working place during the work.)

AEC Semarang organizes the works as the following format:

• Manual working such as painting, planting, renovation etc.
• Education activities such as teaching some subjects for local children or youth

 Participants can bring some educational material if it’s necessary for the projects. Also, AEC Semarang would like to provide enough and proper equipment such as painting, brushes, gloves, shoves and basket.

• Leisure activities and cultural visit:

Providing an excursion to cultural and tourist area for 1 day during a schedule. Food, accommodation, transportation will be provided. Entrance ticket MUST be covered by volunteers themselves.

• Cultural exchange and night:

Your group is kindly requested to prepare some cultural performance, games, music and so on so that they can introduce it to local people, local youth, and schools.

 Farewell party:

Your group can cook traditional foods for guest, host org and people who helped them during their stay. They will take some traditional sources to cook. Some simple performances from your group would be very wonderful for local people. Of course, it’s not professional performance. The host organization will provide the necessary food and materials.

• Accommodation:

Generally, it will be fine as likely as normal program. Volunteers are going to stay in local host family. We will provide only mattresses. Therefore, we request the volunteer to bring their own sleeping bag. There is electricity in the house with 220 V.

• Food:

The local ladies will cook and provide the food 3 times in a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner). The food will be typical Indonesian food, with rice as the main dish with vegetable, fish, chicken or others. The simple fruits and snack also will be served.

 Other facilities:

We will let you know in the info sheet if there is another facility that we can use in the project site.

• Language: English, Indonesian, local dialect.
• Others: It would be very nice if volunteers can donate stationary such as crayon, pens, paper and so on for local school.

Program fee amount: 350 Euro

 This program covers:

- The program fee will be used all for the project during the project.

-The program fee includes the cost of accommodation, food, airport pick-up service (Arrival Day & Departure Day), Leisure & cultural visit (1 day, meals, transportation), local transportations, materials for the project and any contribution for the local host organization, if needed, etc. Finally, it covers all the expenses from the first day to the last days in the project except personal expenses such as candy, snack, personal shopping and so on.

- The coordination fee is for our coordination expenses and benefit in the organization. Including the preparation, communication, project coordinator, organizing the project
