DiscoverEU | Explore Europe for Free by Train
Introduction
If you are 18 and your greatest passion is to travel, hurry up! Erasmus+ funded “DiscoverEU” programme available again!
Up to 18 October 36,318 travel passes are available for young people aged 18 who wish to explore Europe by train.
Selected participants will have the opportunity to create their own travel plan, selecting the destinations they prefer and will receive train tickets for free.

What is DiscoverEU?
DiscoverEU is a program fully funded by the European Union. It aims to facilitate youth mobility within the European territory. It allows young people of 18 years to create their own travel itinerary and travel it by train completely free of charge.
However, there are exceptions regarding the peripheral territories of the European Union and the islands, for which there is a refund of expenses in case the participants need to travel by air.
Furthermore, they will get numerous discounts covering cultural outings, educational endeavours, sports activities, local transportation, lodging, and dining experiences.
The requirements of the programme
To meet the eligibility criteria, you must fulfill the following conditions:
- Your birthdate must fall between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005.
- Provide the correct identity card (ID), passport, or residence card number when completing the online application.
- Be a citizen or resident of one of the following:
- Any European Union Member State, including Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs).
- One of the third countries associated with the Erasmus+ program: Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, or Türkiye.
Additionally, unless you are applying as part of a group, you will have to take part into a quiz.
If you’re chosen, your journey should range from a minimum of 1 day to a maximum of 30 days, and it has to take place between March 1, 2024, and May 31, 2025.
Can I travel with friends?
Program participants can decide whether to live this experience alone or in a group of friends.
It is possible to travel with 4 other friends, creating a travel group when registering for the program.
To do this it is necessary that the participants of the group enter the “friend code” provided when sending their application.
If you wish to collaborate or explore Europe with others DiscoverEU participants, you can become a member of the DiscoverEU Facebook Group, which provides an outstanding platform for this purpose.
Upon your selection, the Erasmus+ National Agencies will assist in the process and arrange pre-departure meetings and traveler gatherings to enrich your overall experience.
