Interreg Volunteer Youth | Supporting Cooperation Across Borders

Introduction

The “Interreg Volunteer Youth” (IVY) initiative provides a unique opportunity for young people that want to make a positive impact on the world.

Through collaboration, IVY volunteers engage in solidarity actions, addressing challenges in both Europe and its neighboring regions.

Working alongside local actors, these volunteers actively contribute to finding and implementing shared solutions, fostering cooperation and making a meaningful difference in their communities.

The IVY mission

The goals of the Interreg Volunteer Youth initiative are to foster cooperation by accomplishing the following three objectives:

  1. Support cooperation between motivated young people
  2. Make cooperation visible among local communities and beyond
  3. Empower youth and promote the cooperation between them

With IVY, young people volunteer in programs that help European teamwork in different areas like the environment, education, research, health, transportation, sustainable energy, and more. These projects get funding from Interreg programs, also called European Territorial Cooperation programs, under the European Union’s Regional Policy.

Countries involved in the project

The project include the following countries:

  • All countries of the European Union (including outermost regions)
  • The neighbouring partner countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and the United Kingdom
  • Countries involved in Pre-Accession Assistance Cross-border Co-operation Programmes: Serbia, the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo and Turkiye
  • Countries involved in Neighbourhood Cross-border Co-operation Programmes

Each volunteering experience lasts for 2 to 6 months and the volunteers receive a financial contribution that covers their cost of living.

The “Interreg Volunteer Youth” initiative is financed by the European Union and the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR).
