Introduction

Youth4Climate (Y4C) and its partners announce the launch of the 2024 Call for Solutions!

It’s widely recognised that young people play important roles in making big changes to tackle climate issues. They act as negotiators, innovators, inventors, entrepreneurs, and drivers of change.

However, they often lack the necessary resources and support to achieve their goals.

In response, the Government of Italy and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), along with various partners and youth groups, are working together to find, help, and expand climate solutions led by young people.

This second edition of the Y4C Call for Solutions is also designed as a challenge to encourage and support the work of young individuals and groups in five main areas: Understanding Climate and the Environment, Sustainable Energy, Food and Farming, Protecting Nature, and Sustainable Consumption and Production.

The areas of the project

The 2024 Call is looking to support young people’s ideas in five main areas:

• Understanding Climate and the Environment: This means learning about the climate and nature.
• Sustainable Energy: Finding ways to use energy that won’t harm the planet.
• Food and Agriculture: Coming up with better ways to grow food that’s good for the environment.
• Nature Assets: Protecting natural places and the animals that live there.
• Sustainable Consumption and Production: Figuring out how to make and use things without hurting the Earth.

Notice that while projects might cover more than one area, applicants need to pick the main one they’re focusing on.

What are the prizes?

Winning applicants will receive:

1. Funding of up to $30,000 to put their ideas into action or expand them.
2. Access to help with specific topics to build up their skills.
3. Guidance from a mentor to refine their plans.
4. Opportunities to share their stories at upcoming events hosted by the Youth4Climate initiative and on the Youth4Climate Platform and UNDP’s website along with its partners.

If selected, projects can run for up to 24 months. Applications can be submitted in English, French, or Spanish.

How to apply

To apply for this project you need to follow 4 steps.

Step 1:

Begin by navigating to the Call For Solutions 2024 Guideline and template page. To access the resources, you’ll need to register on the Youth4Climate Platform. This platform will provide you with the necessary tools and information to proceed further.

Step 2:

Next, download and carefully review the Guidelines Document. This document contains comprehensive details about who is eligible to apply, the requirements for submission, and crucial deadlines that you need to be aware of, so take your time to understand all the information provided.

Step 3:

After familiarising yourself with the guidelines, download the budget and workplan template. Fill out this template with the relevant details pertaining to your proposed solution. Additionally, you’ll be required to create a 3-minute video pitch presenting your solution. Follow the instructions outlined in the Call For Solutions Guidelines to ensure that your video effectively communicates your idea.

Step 4:

Once you have completed all the necessary steps and prepared also your application materials, proceed to submit your proposal via the application platform. Make sure to review your application thoroughly before submitting it.

The deadline for submissions is May 26th, so take advantage of the time available to refine your proposal and ensure its completeness and clarity.
